The Building Plot is an ongoing research project being driven by a partnership between Architecture Sans Frontieres UK (ASF-UK) and the Eden Project to raise awareness about the issues of excess waste in the construction industry and develop more sustainable modes of practice by promoting reuse, innovation and training opportunities.
The Building Plot aims to consider the number of unemployed individuals who could play a part in a new generation of sustainable construction workers by creating training courses targeted at sustainability and reuse.
The workshops are taking place at the Eden Centre behind the domes linked to Eden’s waste recycling centre. The process will involve the design development and construction of an intervention to test innovative new building components which it is hoped will be used to inform the construction of a new, permenant training centre at the Eden Project.
The intervention will act as a showcase for the possibilities of constructing with reused materials as well as providing a centre for sustainable construction skills and training.
The workshop is headed up by volunteers from ASF-UK, funded by the Big Lottery Fund Awards For All Programme and hosted by the Eden Project. In addition the workshops are being guided by local building professionals and attended by indivduals from local agencies looking for training opportunites to help gain future employment.
