Designing Out Waste

A competition took place in 2009 hosted by WRAP for proposals for a new building which exhibited the most innovative proposals for demonstrating how designers can ‘design out waste’.

ASF-UK submitted a proposal not for a building but rather for a new process which tackled far more issues than any one design could possibly achieve. The proposal can be summarised in one simple formula.

Waste + Innovative Design + Training = New Building Components + New Jobs + Dynamic Enterprise

One Response to Designing Out Waste

really inspiring i would love to know when the next build project is on so i can come pitch my tent and get stuck in. i have always loved the challenge of finding solutions in the process and want to train/practice in architecture but have little chance of getting to college. can you put me on a mailing list so i can find a way into this wonderful much needed approach to reducing waste. it breaks my heart every time i walk past a skip and see top quality wood and other materials simply being tossed away when at least it could be burned if not reused for building. all it needs is a large warehouse, a few trucks and time to scour the endless tips in the country city by city. we could probably provide all the building materials needed by SEEDS in India if shipping costs wern’t prohibitive..
